Neilson Powless (EF Training-EasyPost) took a surprising solo victory within the GP La Marseillaise, attacking a 9-man breakaway on the ultimate ascent of the riviera race, as Valentin Ferron (TotalEnergies) received the dash for second from Brent Van Moer (Lotto-Dstny).
The American rider made his preliminary assault whereas descending forward on the ultimate ascent of Col de la Gineste – which sits 13km forward of the end line – a transfer which carried him onto the slopes of the uncategorised 3km climb, the place he made additional floor on the breakaway group.
The breakaway, containing 9 riders together with Brent Van Moer and Valentin Ferron, started to observe each other, which gave strategy to a breakdown in collaboration as they approached the summit of the ultimate ascent, providing Powless a 25-second hole on the summit.
